Bhote Koshi floods: 15 identified, over 3,700 still missing
RASUWA:- The flood that struck the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa on Bhadra 10 has caused extensive loss of life and property. Releasing preliminary details as of this evening, the District Administration Office stated that disaster response and rescue operations are proceeding rapidly.
According to the administration, the identities of 15 of the bodies recovered following the floods on Bhadra 10 have been established. Those identified include citizens from Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Kaski, and Ramechhap. Out of a total of 199 bodies recovered, 15 have been identified and 45 have undergone preliminary inquest procedures; the remaining bodies await identification through inquests and DNA testing.
A large number of citizens and tourists have gone out of contact following the floods. According to the administration, 1,671 people from Rasuwa, 1,835 from other districts, and 278 foreign tourists remain unaccounted for. Dhruva Prasad Adhikari, the Assistant Chief District Officer and Information Officer, stated that search operations are ongoing.
According to him, rescue operations conducted immediately following the disaster resulted in the safe rescue of a total of 1,461 individuals—comprising 1,372 Nepalis and 89 foreign tourists—by Bhadra 31. Additionally, 74 people injured in the floods were rescued and hospitalized; of these, 49 have been discharged following treatment, while the others have been referred elsewhere for further care. One male patient among those hospitalized after the floods passed away during treatment.
Citizens who have been displaced or are at risk have been accommodated in nine different shelters. Assistant Chief District Officer Adhikari stated that a total of 817 people are currently taking shelter in various schools and monasteries in Rasuwa, as well as at the Mustang Sewa Gumba, Yellow Gumba, and the Nepal Buddha Dharma Sewa Sangh building in Swayambhu, Kathmandu.
Floods have severely affected various wards across the Gosaikunda, Aamachhodingmo, Kalika, and Uttargaya rural municipalities in Rasuwa. Relief and rehabilitation efforts have been complicated by the complete disruption of road networks in Gosaikunda (Wards 1, 3, 4, and 6), all wards of Aamachhodingmo, and Uttargaya (Wards 1, 2, and 3).
The Assistant Chief District Officer has stated that further details regarding relief distribution are being updated on the District Administration Office’s website.
