Bhote Koshi Flood: 1,356 Bodies Recovered
KATHMANDU:- The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has stated that, so far, the bodies of 1,356 people who died in the Rasuwa floods have been recovered, while an estimated 4,994 individuals remain missing.
According to the Authority, bodies have been recovered as follows: 169 in Rasuwa, 197 in Nuwakot, 70 in Dhading, 75 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 363 in Chitwan, 223 in Nawalparasi East, and 221 in Nawalparasi West.
Spokesperson Shanti Mahat stated that, so far, 98 bodies have been identified and handed over to their families. She explained that DNA testing would be required for the remaining unidentified bodies and noted that samples—along with two photographs and proof of kinship—could be submitted to the respective district police offices. A total of 13,396 people have been rescued from the flood-affected areas to date.
According to Authority spokesperson Mahat, 4,994 people remain out of contact. Among them, the highest numbers are from Nuwakot (2,340) and—based on updated details from the Rasuwa District Administration Office—Rasuwa (1,967). The Authority stated that search and rescue operations have been intensified due to the large number of missing persons. So far, 6,676 people—including the injured and those otherwise affected—have received medical treatment following the floods.
The Authority has stated that various state agencies are carrying out relief and management operations to meet the basic needs of displaced and affected citizens while accommodating them in safe locations.
After the floods in the Bhotekoshi River caused massive human and material damage at once, security agencies, local levels, and various government and non-government agencies are continuously active in search, rescue, treatment, and relief management.
