Alleged Chicago Hindu temple shooting suspect appears in US juvenile court

CHICAGO:- Chicago police claim to have successfully thwarted a potential mass shooting at a Hindu temple. They have also confirmed the arrest of a 19-year-old man, who is suspected of having planned to target the Hindu place of worship.

Police stated that Alexandros Paporakis, a Taco Bell cashier from Palatine, Illinois, has been taken into custody and charged with planning to target the largest Hindu temple in Aurora, Illinois.

The defendant’s coworkers told the police that they had received digital communications from Paporakis, which included an outline of a planned mass shooting and photographs of tactical gear. According to prosecutors from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Paporakis had openly identified himself as a white supremacist at work and told his coworkers that he “couldn’t wait” to kill Indian people.

The Mount Prospect and Palatine police departments coordinated to locate and arrest Paporakis on Sunday afternoon as he was leaving his home—a day on which detectives believe he may have planned to carry out an attack, Palatine police said.

He allegedly told his Taco Bell coworkers that Sunday would be a “special day.”

Prosecutors stated that earlier on Sunday, Paporakis called a coworker to say that his gun had jammed, and he then left without appearing to be in any “great rush.”

“The seriousness of this alleged threat cannot be overstated,” said Palatine Police Chief William Nord, adding that the security of places of worship is a priority for law enforcement.

According to court documents obtained by the Associated Press, prosecutors allege that Paporakis sent a colleague an eight-page document titled “Why I Fought: A.K.A. (Aurora Shooter’s Manifesto),” which described Indian, Jewish, and African American people as “subhuman” and outlined a plot to kill many of them.
