Chhaupadi story based film ‘Hali released on August 7

KATHMANDU:- The trailer for the upcoming film ‘Hali’ has been released. The producers unveiled the film’s poignant trailer at a press conference.
The trailer offers a glimpse into the film’s storyline, character portrayals, and central conflict. It highlights the narrative surrounding the misconception that adolescent girls should not attend school while menstruating.
The film also addresses the harmful practice associated with *Chhaupadi*, which dictates that a woman must not look at the faces of her father or other men for a period of 21 days. Producer Pooja Gurung stated that the film is based on a true story.
She explained that the film conveys the message that even a humble ploughman can transform the face of the nation. “It takes very little to bring about change in the country,” she said. “The nation cannot be transformed merely by politicians delivering speeches.”
Director Om Pratik stated that if one broadens their perspective, there is no need to pursue a PhD in academics. He says, “In the western region, it is customary to confine girls to a *Chhaupadi* hut during their first menstruation. We made this film based on that very reality. If one views awareness broadly, there is no need to earn a PhD.”
Puja Gurung and Jasmine Shrestha have collaborated on the film’s production. The cast includes Pramod Deep, Sujata Thapa, Vidya Karki, Saroj Khanal, Aruna Karki, Arjun Gurung, Nabin Shrestha, Kanchan Dulal, Kamal Gaule, and Bishal Pahadi.
The film is set for release starting August 7.
