Foreign and Labor Ministry released separate apps for Nepalis Diaspora

"Victims no longer need to travel to Kathmandu to file a complaint; once they submit it from their current location, the department will review the matter and contact the aggrieved party."

KATHMANDU:- The government led by Balendra Shah has placed special emphasis on good governance. As part of this initiative, ministries, departments, and various offices providing overlapping services have been either abolished or merged.

However, the government appears unaware that two ministries located within Singhadurbar itself are performing the same type of work. On Jestha 12, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs launched the ‘MoFA Mitra’ app with the aim of addressing the grievances of Nepalis abroad through an online platform.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment has launched an app of a similar nature. Today, the Ministry released the ‘Ujuri Nepal Government’ app.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ‘MoFA Mitra’ app allows users to submit online applications for the search and rescue of Nepali citizens who are in distress, missing, or stranded abroad. It has been stated that the app also facilitates the necessary coordination and application processes for repatriating the bodies of citizens who pass away while abroad for employment or travel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched this app to enable users to initiate claims for compensation and insurance payouts in the event of disability or death while working abroad; to register issues or grievances and track their status by directly contacting Nepali missions abroad or the Ministry itself; and to access contact details for Nepali embassies in various countries as well as information and FAQs regarding passport and consular services.

The Ministry of Labour’s ‘Ujuri Dofe Government Nepal’ portal aims to eliminate the need to travel to Kathmandu; it allows users to register complaints online by uploading scanned copies or photos of necessary evidence directly from their mobile phones or computers. Upon registration, users receive a tracking code via SMS and email. The portal is integrated with the Nepal Police’s central system and is designed to spare individuals from the hassles of traveling to and staying in Kathmandu, as well as the risk of losing documents.

Pitambar Ghimire, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour, stated that he was unaware of the specific app launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, he noted that the app and online system were introduced to manage complaints from victims abroad. “Victims no longer need to travel to Kathmandu to file a complaint; once they submit it from their current location, the department will review the matter and contact the aggrieved party,” he said.

The government has launched an online complaint system to effectively address the issues faced by workers who have been defrauded with the lure of foreign employment. Minister for Youth, Labor, and Employment Ramji Yadav formally inaugurated the portal, named ‘Ujuri DoFE Government Nepal,’ during a program held on Tuesday at the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal.
