44th National Magar Unity Day marked

KATHMANDU:- The Magar community in Tanahun celebrated the 44th National Magar Unity Day on Friday with various programmes across the district, including the district headquarters, Damauli.

Magar Association of Nepal (Nepal Magar Sangh) organised the special ceremony, where organisers highlighted and displayed the original art, culture and identity of the Magar community.

On the occasion, a cultural tableau and rally started from Anachautari in Damauli and marched around the market area.

Participants dressed in traditional attire performed Kaura, Jhyaure and Maruni dances, which turned the Damauli bazaar area into a festive space.

Chief Guest and National Assembly Member Suresh Ale Magar stated that the Magar community forms an integral part of Nepal’s history, bravery and culture.

In addition, he viewed that the state should implement the rights guaranteed by the Constitution effectively and show greater sensitivity and commitment towards protecting the language, script and identity of all indigenous nationalities.

Former Minister for Science and Technology Shivlal Thapa Magar recalled the historic day of Feb 27, 1983, AD, when the first general convention of Nepal Langhali Family Association took place in Damauli.

Thapa further said that the community observed this day every year as National Magar Unity Day.

Similarly, he emphasised that the new generation should follow the path of unity shown by their ancestors and hand down their original traditions and culture.

Chief of the District Coordination Committee Tanahun Shantiraman Wagle said that unity within diversity strengthens the nation and highly praised the cultural contribution of the Magar community.

Mayor of Vyas Municipality Baikuntha Neupane stated that the municipality has prioritised programmes to preserve the art and culture of Indigenous nationalities, has extended support, and will continue to do so in the future.

Chairperson of Nepal Magar Sangh, Tanahun, Harka Thapa Magar, informed that Magar settlements around the world observe this day every year with the objective of promoting art, language and traditional dress rooted in Magar culture.

He presented happiness that all ten local levels in Tanahun granted a public holiday to honour the identity of the Magar community.

He also said that all local levels in the district had also granted a public holiday in the previous year.
