Workshop on exploring AI in filmmaking held

KATHMANDU:- A two-day workshop titled ‘Cinematic AI: From Script to Screen with Artificial Intelligence’ has concluded in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

The worship was organised with the aim of making the Nepali film industry more technology-friendly.

The event, organised in collaboration between the Film Development Board and the Nepal AI Film Alliance (NAIFA), saw the participation of more than 200 film professionals.

Addressing the inaugural session held at the Film Development Board’s auditorium in Chabahil, Chairperson Dinesh DC said that AI has created new possibilities in the film sector. He expressed the view that, with the use of AI, the role of human creativity will become even more significant.

He also emphasised the need for everyone involved in the film industry to acquire at least a basic knowledge of AI, noting that those who fail to stay updated with technology may fall behind.

Likewise, NAIFA Chairperson Karun Thapa said that AI has made film production more accessible. While filmmaking previously required substantial budgets, equipment, and manpower, it is now possible to create films from a room using just ideas and the internet, he added.

During the workshop, participants were trained in the process of developing a complete film from idea to script, script to image, image to video, and ultimately to a finished production. Information was also provided on the use of AI in sound design, editing, colour correction, and VFX.

Trainers from NAIFA, including Karun Thapa, Shiva Puri, Mausam Puri, and Ajay Sharma, conducted sessions over the two days. Moreover, FDB Chairperson DC said that, due to high demand from participants, the workshop will be extended by three more days, with the dates to be announced soon.
