Water level crosses danger mark; high risk of flooding in Narayani River
CHITWAN:- The risk of severe flooding has increased after water levels in the Narayani River and its major tributaries crossed the danger mark.
Issuing a special flood forecast and advisory bulletin, the Secretariat of the Water and Energy Commission and the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (Flood Forecasting Division) have urged residents in riparian and low-lying areas to exercise high vigilance and move to safe locations.
According to the local administration, the water level in the Narayani River has risen above the danger mark of nine meters, reaching approximately 11 meters.
The water level continues to rise. According to the Devghat flood-gauging station, the river’s flow is expected to increase further by this afternoon, with the water level projected to reach a peak of around 13 meters. The department has stated that the water level will remain above the danger mark until this evening.
Among the major tributaries of the Narayani River, the flow in the Kali Gandaki has risen well above the danger level, while water levels in the Seti, Madi, Marshyangdi, Daraudi, Chepe, Budhi Gandaki, and Trishuli rivers have also crossed the alert level and continue to rise.
