US congratulates Nepal for peaceful elections

KATHMANDU:- The United States has congratulated Nepal on the peaceful completion of the election for members of the House of Representatives. The U.S. Embassy in Nepal congratulated Nepal on the completion of the election today.

The embassy said, “The United States looks forward to working with the incoming administration on the shared goals of prosperity and security for both countries.” The House of Representatives elections, which were held in the special circumstances following the Genji Movement, have concluded. The commission reported that 60 percent of the votes were cast in the election held today. Work is currently underway to move the ballot boxes to the counting sites. Preparations are underway to count in some places starting tonight.

Voting took place in all 77 districts of the country in a single phase from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. 65 political parties are competing under 61 election symbols under the first past the post (direct) electoral system. In the direct election, 3,406 candidates, including 3,017 men, 388 women and one other, are in the election race.

This is the third election to the House of Representatives since the country entered the federal democratic republic. Earlier, elections for members of the House of Representatives were held in 2074 BS and 2079 BS. In the election, 3,135 candidates, including 1,363 men and 1,772 women, are competing under the proportional electoral system. Elections have been held for 165 constituencies under direct representation and 110 seats under proportional representation.
