‘The Everest Dream’ won Special Jury Short Documentary Award at Film Festival of Shimla

KATHAMANDU:- The Nepali documentary film ‘The Everest Dream’ has won the Special Jury Award for Short Documentary at the 12th International Film Festival of Shimla, held in Shimla, India.

‘The Everest Dream,’ directed and produced by filmmaker and media personality Ganesh Pandey, won this award after competing against international documentaries from around the world. Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta and Festival Director Pushparaj Thakur presented the award to Pandey at the ceremony held in Shimla.

Films from 33 countries were screened at the festival held at Shimla’s historic Gaiety Heritage Complex from September 25 to 27. The film *The Everest Dream* tells the story of the adventurous journey to Everest Base Camp undertaken by British citizens who were facing various life challenges following severe brain injuries. The documentary captures their experiences, ranging from their rigorous training in Scotland to their journey to the Himalayas in Nepal.

The film focuses on the journey to Everest Base Camp undertaken by a seven-member team—led by James Lamb and including five brain injury survivors. It conveys the inspiring message that dreams can be realized despite physical and mental challenges. According to Director Pandey, the film’s core message is that even when faced with severe injury or adversity in life, one can still dream anew and fulfill those dreams.

‘The Everest Dream’ has previously won the Best Documentary Film Award at the Cobb International Film Festival in Georgia, USA. With this international award won in Shimla, the Nepali documentary has further strengthened its presence at international film festivals.
