Preliminary preparation for election begins

KATHMANDU:- The Election Commission (EC) has begun preliminary preparatory works following the announcement of election for 5 March 2026 with the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).

The Election Commission commenced the preliminary preparation by cancelling all programmes related to the HoR member by-election in Rupandehi constituency-3 earlier set for coming November 2.

Commission’s spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said formal consultation with the government and other logistic preparation and planning has begun with the announcement of the election.

Newly-appointed Minister for Finance Rameshwor Khanal has already made announcement for budget revision in a way to arrange financial resource required for election.

President Ramchandra Paudel had appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as the Prime Minister after then PM KP Sharma Oli resigned from the post amid the circumstances resulting in from the Gen Z protests during September 8-9.

On the recommendation of the Prime Minister Karki, the President dissolved the HoR on September 12 and announced election for March 5 next year.
