NRNA hands over Rs 10 million to the government for relief to flood-affected citizens
KATHMANDU:- The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has handed over Rs 10 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund as a first-phase contribution for the relief and rescue of citizens affected by devastating floods.
A delegation led by NRNA President Dr. Hemraj Sharma handed over the amount on Monday after meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singhadurbar.
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) handed over Rs 10 million—part of the funds collected from its office-bearers, activists, and various National Coordination Councils (NCCs)—to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund in the first phase.
Speaking on the occasion, Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal stated that the Government of Nepal is committed to collaborating with the NRNA, noting that the government alone cannot handle the rehabilitation and reconstruction required following the extensive damage caused by floods and inundation.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the government for NRNA’s commitment to provide NPR 50 million in aid and for directly distributing relief at the affected sites during this difficult time of disaster, he stated that the government would collaborate and coordinate with NRNA across all stages of relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction.
Dr. Upendra Mahato, Founding President of the NRNA, stated that Nepalis living abroad stand with Nepal during this difficult time of disaster. He noted that the NRNA is ready to directly participate in relief efforts, health camps, the provision of medicines and medical services, and reconstruction work.
Stating that more effective collaboration between the government and the NRNA is essential to mobilize support from non-resident Nepalis and foreign friends, he urged the government to engage Nepalis living abroad as trusted partners.
