‘No one can stop the special general convention’

KATHMANDU:-  A group of Nepali Congress provincial and district presidents backing the demand for a special general convention has declared that the upcoming convention, scheduled for January 12, is “unstoppable.”

In a joint statement issued on Sunday, 26 district presidents and one provincial president criticized the party leadership for failing to set the agenda for the general convention, despite the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting continuing for more than six weeks. They condemned what they described as attempts to sidestep a legitimately registered demand for a special general convention, as outlined in the party statute.

The leaders urged the party to conclude the ongoing internal discussions without further delay and begin preparations for the upcoming elections with “renewed energy.” They accused the CWC of intentionally dragging out the process in an effort to block the possibility of holding a general convention.

The statement further stressed the need for the Nepali Congress to head into the March 5 general elections with new leadership and fresh enthusiasm.

Among the signatories were Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun, Nawalpur President Mahendra Dhoj GC, Baitadi President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Arghakhanchi President Keshav Shrestha, Dhankuta President Dinesh Rai, Bhojpur President Binod Bantawa, and Terhathum President Arjun Tumbahamphe, among others.
