New academic session begins across Nepal from today

KATHMANDU:- The new academic session for schools across the country has officially begun from today, Baisakh 15, following a revised school calendar approved by the government.

The Ministry of Education had directed all schools to start the new session from mid-Baisakh, moving away from the earlier practice of beginning enrolment immediately after the Nepali New Year. The decision was made to ensure that there is sufficient time for the publication of annual examination results and other academic preparations before starting new admissions.

Previously, schools used to rush the enrolment process within the first week of Baisakh, often without completing result publication and certificate distribution. The government also cited logistical issues, including fuel shortages, while adjusting the academic schedule.

However, reports show that some local governments and schools had already begun student enrolment ahead of the official schedule.

The government has also warned private schools against collecting fees without following the prescribed fee determination directive, 2072. It has urged schools to refund any extra charges taken in violation of the rules.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had also issued an order directing schools not to begin new enrolment unless the results of the previous academic session are published and certificates are properly distributed. The order emphasized proper time management between examinations, results, and the start of the new academic session.
