Constitution Amendment Will Be Based on National Consensus: Taskforce Coordinator Shah

KATHMANDU:- Coordinator of the government task force on constitutional amendment, Ashim Shah, has said that the constitution will not be amended unilaterally and will be moved forward based on national consensus.

Speaking at a consultation with legal experts and constitutional experts held at the Prime Minister’s Office, Singha Durbar, Shah clarified that the government is not acting one-sidedly and is incorporating diverse suggestions in the amendment process.

He said broader discussions will be held with political parties and other stakeholders to ensure inclusive deliberations on the issue. Shah added that the task force has been mandated to prepare a concept paper in line with the government’s 100-point action plan.

He also stated that a constitutional amendment is a multi-stakeholder issue and consensus will be built through dialogue. According to him, inputs from subject experts will be included in the concept paper.

During the meeting, task force member Secretary Leeladhar Subedi presented key areas identified for possible amendment.

Constitutional experts and senior advocates, including Dr Bipin Adhikari, Purna Man Shakya, Radheshyam Adhikari, Govind Sharma ‘Bandi’, Shambhu Thapa, Mira Dhungana and Tikaram Bhattarai, offered their suggestions during the discussion.
