Maldhunga bridge at risk due to erosion of Kaligandaki
BAGLUNG:- The motorable bridge at Maldhunga, connecting Parbat and Baglung, is at risk due to erosion caused by the Kali Gandaki River. The erosion, resulting from increased floodwaters, has damaged the bridge’s lower section and structural components.
The river has eroded the wall located near the bridge’s pillar on the Parbat side. Police reported that the bridge’s foundation and lower sections sustained damage following a sudden rise in the water level of the Kaligandaki River. Although traffic is currently continuing across the bridge, the Baglung District Police Office has urged everyone to exercise extreme caution due to the potential risks.
Hundreds of vehicles and thousands of passengers travel across this bridge daily. The Maldhunga Bridge serves as a key gateway connecting Baglung with various districts in western Nepal, including Gulmi, Rolpa, Rukum, Jajarkot, Dolpa, and Salyan.
With the rise in the river’s water level, both the bridge and the riverside settlements in the Maldhunga area are at risk. The police have urged local residents in the vicinity to remain alert.
