Home Minister Sudhan Gurung resigns after widespread criticism

KATHMANDU:-  Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has resigned from his post after widespread criticism. Gurung, who is accused of being involved in various share transactions with controversial businessmen, has submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Balendra Shah. He announced his resignation on social media.

Prime Minister Shah formed the Council of Ministers on the same day he was appointed. Gurung was appointed Home Minister on the same day. Gurung, who initially gained attention by arresting high-ranking officials, has recently come under criticism.

Gurung submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Shah after discussions with Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane.

Home Minister Gurung said in a post about his resignation on social media, “I have resigned from the position of Home Minister with effect from today,” the 38-year-old posted on his social media accounts.

“For me, morality is greater than a position, and there is no greater power than public trust … Public life should be clean, leadership should be accountable,” added Gurung, who took office on March 27.
