Supreme Court orders release of Durga Prasain

KATHMANDU:-  The Supreme Court has ordered the release of Durga Prasai, a medical professional and coordinator of the Nation, Nationality, Religion-Culture and Civil Defense Campaign.

Today, a joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Shrikant Poudel issued an order on a writ petition filed by Prasai’s son, Nirajan Prasai, ordering Prasai’s immediate release from detention.

It is stated that the arrest warrant and extension procedures issued for Prasai, which were deemed not to be necessary for the offense charged, have been canceled in the circumstances in which an agreement has been reached with the government.
Police arrested Prasai from his residence in Bhaktapur at midnight on November 20 on charges of making statements that disturbed public peace.
The Maha Abhiyan had announced a program of protests, including a Nepal Bandh, from November 21, but after talks between the government and the Prasai-led Maha Abhiyan on Saturday, all protest programs were withdrawn.
