Good governance, peaceful environment for poll should be ensured: NC president Deuba

KATHMANDU:- Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed support to the Gen Z demands for good governance, freedom of expression and the end of corruption.

NC president Deuba, also former Prime Minister, made his view public on Tuesday while addressing NC’s central committee meeting at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur.

Saying that the country was undergoing a grave political and social crisis, Deuba pointed out the need of unity, perseverance and responsible political view within the party.

He viewed that the events of September 8 and 9 have caused heavy loss to the nation.

I am saddened the way youths lost lives in course of Gen Z move due to incursions which also turned the protest violent, he said.

Deuba expressed tribute to those who lost lives and wished speedy recovery of the injured.

He, however, demanded probe into incidents of arson and vandalism and action against those involved.

The former Prime Minister also pointed at the need of free and fair environment for the election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

In the meeting, NC president Deuba announced he would not via for next term and designated vice president Purna Bahadur Khadka as the acting president.

It is the first time that Deuba appeared in public programme after he and his spouse were physically attacked during Gen Z protest on September 9 at his own residence.
