Gen Z’s protest against social media shutdown and corruption begins from Maitighar

KATHMANDU:-  Protests have begun among the Gen Z generation, dissatisfied with the government’s closure of social media and the increase in corruption.

The Gen Z’s, who gathered at their ancestral home on Monday, carried the national flag and sang patriotic songs in protest.

The government’s shutdown of social media and corruption have made the main agenda of the protest.

They are also carrying placards with various slogans written on them. Some are seen wearing school and college uniforms.

Gen Z, who took to the streets in response to a call made on social media, has said that he will not allow political party leaders and activists to participate in the demonstration.

They have also said that the demonstration will be peaceful. It has been said that there will be no speeches during the demonstration, but that there will be programs including dancing and singing.

Apart from Kathmandu, Gen Z is also demonstrating in various cities of the country including Pokhara, Butwal, Janakpur, etc. from today.

Kulman Ghising, an activist of the Ujjayalo Nepal Campaign, has expressed support for the anti-corruption protest of the ‘Gen Z’ generation to be held on Monday.

Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah, National Independent Party President Ravi Lamichhane, and others have expressed solidarity with their protest.
