Foreign Minister Khanal urges EU support for removal from its Air Safety List

KATHMANDU:- Ambassadors of the European Union (EU) Member States based in Kathmandu and New Delhi, currently in Nepal as part of a high-level European Union mission, paid a joint call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Shisir Khanal at the Ministry today.

During the meeting, Minister Khanal appreciated the European Union’s continued development partnership with Nepal and stressed the need to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, climate action, education, and people-to-people ties.

He highlighted efficient service delivery and a strong anti-corruption stance as two major pillars of good governance, alongside rapid economic growth as key priorities of the Government.

Minister Khanal also shared details of ongoing economic reforms aimed at facilitating investment, enhancing export competitiveness, and promoting innovation, while inviting greater investment in hydropower, tourism, infrastructure development, and information technology.

Referring to the considerable progress Nepal has made and the reforms that remain actively underway, he requested the EU Member States to give due consideration to supporting Nepal in the process of delisting from the EU Air Safety List.

Speaking on behalf of the visiting delegation, EU Ambassador to Nepal Véronique Lorenzo said the objective of the visit was to reaffirm the support of EU Member States to the new government, as well as to explore opportunities for engagement between Nepal and the EU Member States, including the sharing of EU expertise in e-governance and digitalization.
