Everest climber dies of altitude sickness during expedition

SOLUKHUMBU:- A mountain climber died of altitude sickness during an expedition to Sagarmatha (Mt Everest).

The District Police Office, Solukhumbu, confirmed the death of Bijay Ghimire Bishwakarma of Solududhkunda Municipality-7.

According to the office’s information officer, police inspector Bikash Rai, Ghimire suddenly fell ill at around 4:00 am today when he was at camp-1 of Sagarmatha.

He breathed his last while being brought down the base camp. Later, his body was transported to the Lukla helipad, and until the filing of this report, preparations were underway to send the body to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Kathmandu.

Ghimire had already scaled the world’s highest peak and had lately been working as an expedition guide.
