CDL driver’s license data shared with DHS; crackdown on immigrant truck drivers begins

The DHS has initiated a crackdown on immigrant truck drivers by collecting data through the Department of Transportation—including comprehensive personal details—on commercial driver training schools across the country.

LOS ANGELES:- The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has taken control of data from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), citing allegations of fraudulent and illegal activities at schools that issue Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs).

Through this new partnership, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)—an agency within DHS—will obtain CDL data in collaboration with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), which operates under the DOT.

The objective is to apprehend individuals by utilizing the personal details and identity information submitted when obtaining Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs)—licenses issued to immigrants, or those without permanent residency status.

Secretary Markwayne Mullin stated, “Many Americans have lost their lives in entirely preventable accidents caused by immigrants operating trucks and 18-wheelers on U.S. roads after being issued Commercial Driver’s Licenses.”
