Bushra Amiwala Lauds Ruling to Block National Guard Deployment in Chicago

ILLINOIS:- The United States Supreme Court has blocked President Trump’s National Guard deployment to accompany ICE agents in Chicago. The Court ruled that there is no justification under the law to send members of the military to the city.

Lawyers for the government failed to meet the burden of proof that the Guard deployment was necessary. This development comes after eleven months of federal agents causing chaos in the streets of the Chicago area.

Bushra Amiwala, candidate for Congress in Illinois’ 9th district said, “Today’s ruling demonstrates that the Supreme Court is not always commandeered by right-wing extremism. Every now and then, the Court has a conscience. This is one of those times.”

“Will President Trump violate the ruling? That’s an open question. He has ignored the courts in the past. This is what it looks like when a ruler believes he is above the law.”

“Meanwhile, the residents of my district are paying the price. They should be able to go to work, take their children to school, shop for groceries and participate in society without fear. They should be able to leave their homes without being harassed.”

“Local opposition matters. Cities like Chicago and villages like Skokie must continue to pass ordinances that limit where ICE can go and how it can operate in public spaces. Our schools, libraries and parks must be off limits to ICE brutality.

“Violent fascism has no place on our streets. I’m glad the President is blocked from distorting the Guard’s mission any further.”
