Bodies of four climbers who died in Broad Peak avalanche found, Six people, including Nirmal Purja, missing
According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), a team of 10 climbers was caught in an avalanche around midday on Thursday while attempting the climb. The team includes six Nepalis—among them record-breaking climber Nirmal Purja—along with one Pakistani, one Omani, one American, and one Chinese national. The missing Nepali climbers, in addition to Purja, are Kili Pemba Sherpa, Nima Sherpa, Nawang Thindu Sherpa, and Gyalu Sherpa.
KATHMANDU:- The bodies of four climbers have been recovered following an avalanche on Broad Peak—the world’s 12th-highest mountain, located in Pakistan—while six climbers, including renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, are missing.
According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP), a team of ten climbers was caught in an avalanche during their ascent. Five of the missing climbers are Nepali.
Amidst bad weather, rescue teams are attempting to retrieve the four bodies that have been located. According to an Al Jazeera report citing Sajid Hussain, Deputy Director of the Tourism Department in the Gilgit-Baltistan region, the search for the remaining six missing climbers is focused on a remote and challenging area.
Contact has been lost with the team led by 43-year-old Purja—who holds the record for the fastest ascent of all 14 of the world’s peaks exceeding 8,000 meters—following an avalanche. It has been reported that all available resources, including helicopters, are being mobilized for the rescue operation.
According to Pakistan’s Dawn Online, those who died include Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al-Harthi from Oman and Pura Bahadur Gurung from Nepal.

Based on GPS location data, it is estimated that the avalanche swept the team down by approximately 1,000 meters and buried them. A special team, supported by two Pakistan Army helicopters, has been deployed to search for and rescue the missing climbers.
Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain and Tourism Minister Nayaknam Karim have expressed their grief over the incident and directed that rescue operations be intensified using all available resources.
