Awareness-raising street play ‘Sahichhap’ to be performed

KATHMANDU:- An awareness-raising street play ‘Sahichhap’ based on social themes is to be performed. Organized by Namobuddha Municipality, the municipality is going to perform the play with the aim of making school-age children, youth and the local community aware against social evils.

The main themes of the play are child marriage, drug addiction, cybercrime and other contemporary social anomalies that still pose challenges in Nepali society. It is believed that the play, which will present information, entertainment and awareness simultaneously, will play an important role in bringing about positive changes in society.

According to Taradevi Sunuwar, head of the Women, Children and Social Welfare Branch of Namobuddha Municipality, the play will be performed at two schools in the municipality on Asad 11 and 12. On Asad 11, the street play will be performed at the premises of Janak Secondary School in Bhakundebesi, Ward No. 4, Namobuddha Municipality at 1:00 PM and on Asad 12, the street play will be performed at the premises of Krishna Secondary School in Dapcha, Ward No. 9, Namobuddha Municipality at 1:00 PM.

The play, which is performed by Adi-Ityadi, has been written and directed by theatre artist and director Puru Lamsal. The play will feature famous actors Prabhakar Dev Sharma, Kamal Mani Nepal, Anamika Lamichhane, Sagar Karki, Sebita Adhikari, Rupesh Mandal and Anju Khadka. The director plans to gradually show the play across the country.
