Landslide blocks Rukum section of Mid-Hill Highway

RUKUM:- The Mid-Hill Highway has been obstructed due to floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall. The disruption occurred after a landslide struck the Rukum East section of the highway.

Kopila Rai, the Chief District Officer of Rukum East, reported that the road is completely blocked at the Badikhola section in Bhume Rural Municipality-1. According to her, landslides have occurred at various points along the road, and floodwaters have cut through the roadway itself.

Following reports of the road obstruction, a team from the District Security Committee, led by Chief District Officer Rai, conducted an on-site inspection. After the inspection, Chief District Officer Rai confirmed that the road had sustained damage. He stated that repair work would begin tomorrow, Monday, and noted that coordination regarding this has been established with the Mid-Hill Highway Project and the local municipality.

It has been reported that road repairs will take a few days. The administration has requested that vehicles not operate on this route for the time being. Due to the obstruction of this road section, vehicles traveling to and from Rukum West and Rukum East—via Baglung and Pokhara to Kathmandu—have been halted.

The District Police Office has stated that intensive efforts are underway to reopen the blocked road. The police have also advised travelers to check weather and road conditions before setting out on their journeys.
