Tribhuvan Highway flooded, one-way traffic resumes
MAKWANPUR:-Traffic has been disrupted after a section of the Tribhuvan Highway subsided near Aghor Bazaar in Bhimfedi Rural Municipality-9, Makwanpur. The District Police Office, Makwanpur, reported that the lower section of the road gave way at 9:40 AM on Monday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Kafle, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Makwanpur, stated that the road, which had subsided, has now been opened for one-way traffic. Following the road subsidence, a team—including traffic police and led by Police Inspector Govinda Prasad Bhandari from the Area Police Office, Palung—had arrived at the scene. He added that the police are coordinating with the Department of Roads to construct a temporary track at the affected site.
Traffic was completely halted after the Prithvi Highway subsided due to the Trishuli River eroding the section beneath the road at Krishnabhir in Dhading. Subsequently, cargo vehicles heading to Kathmandu were advised to use the Tribhuvan Highway as an alternative route, while returning vehicles were directed to use the Kanti Lokpath.
The Prithvi Highway, which had been blocked at Krishnabhir after a section subsided due to flooding in the Bhote Koshi River (Rasuwa), was reopened on a trial basis on Sunday—the tenth day of the disruption. The highway was restored by creating a diversion towards the adjacent hillside to bypass the subsided section.
Local resident Shambhu Adhikari suggested that the road subsidence might have been caused by the recent increase in traffic volume on the Tribhuvan Highway. Police have also urged travelers to exercise caution.
