Madhesh’s first win in Nepal Volleyball League

KATHMANDU:- Madhesh Warriors secured a victory in the Xtreme Energy Drink Nepal Volleyball League (NVL) on Monday. After suffering defeats in three consecutive matches, Madhesh achieved their first win in their fourth game.

In a match held at the National Sports Council’s covered hall in Tripureshwor—organized by the Kedia Group and primarily sponsored by Xtreme Energy Drink—Madhesh, led by marquee player Rabin Nagarkoti, defeated Khaptad Falcons, led by marquee player Dhirojkaji Basnet, in straight sets (3–0). Madhesh won with set scores of 25–21, 25–20, and 25–23. Madhesh’s Jivin Sebastian was named ‘Man of the Match.’

Earlier, Madhesh had lost 3–1 to Sagarmatha Smashers in their first match, 3–2 to Kathmandu Reds in the second, and 3–1 to Annapurna Spiker Kings. For Khaptad, this marks a third consecutive defeat; they had also lost in straight sets in their previous two matches, having been defeated by Sagarmatha and Karnali Shivraj.

The second and final match of the day in the tournament will take place on Tuesday at 7:00 PM between Kathmandu Reds and Sagarmatha.

Six men’s teams are participating in the tournament organized by the Kedia Group with the support of the Nepal Volleyball Association. The participating teams will first compete in a single round-robin league. The team finishing at the top of the league will advance to the final, while the teams finishing in the top two and third place will play a playoff to reach the final.

The total prize purse for the Nepal Volleyball League is 3.2 million rupees. This is the highest prize amount in the history of Nepali volleyball to date. The winner will receive a cash prize of 2 million rupees.

For the ‘Connected by Ncell’ tournament, the partners include Yeti Carpet (Flooring Partner), WorldLink (Internet Partner), DAV School (Education Partner), Himalaya Life Insurance (Insurance Partner), Nepal Tourism Board (Tourism Partner), Rajhans Oil (Health Partner), and X-Age (Digital Partner). This marks the first-ever men’s volleyball franchise league in Nepal. The final match is scheduled for Bhadra 27.
