Landslides and floods block main highways and road sections, halting traffic at night
KATHMANDU:- Floods and landslides in various parts of the country have affected major highways and road sections. According to data released by the Nepal Police as of 6:30 AM on Wednesday, traffic has been disrupted on various roads across Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
Due to the risk of potential flooding, a nighttime ban has been imposed on all vehicles traveling along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Kathmandu route on the BP Highway in Kavre, Bagmati Province. According to the details, vehicle operations are prohibited from 6:00 PM to 4:00 AM, while traffic will be allowed to operate between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM, subject to prevailing conditions.
Similarly, the Trishuli-Melung-Syafrubesi road section in the Khalte area of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa, has been completely blocked due to flooding. Police have stated that the main highway also remains closed until further notice.
In Nuwakot, the Tokha-Chhahare, Pasang Lhamu, and Bidur-Lachyang road sections have also been affected by floods and landslides. While some sections are completely blocked, vehicular movement has been restricted on others during the night.
Similarly, in Dhading, the road along the Prithvi Highway has been obstructed by landslides in the Benighat-Rorang Rural Municipality and Gajuri areas. The latest reports indicate that one-way traffic is currently operating in the Benighat-Rorang area.
Police have reported that roads remain completely blocked due to landslides in Lamjung (Gandaki Province), Mugu (Karnali Province), and Baitadi (Sudurpaschim Province). The Mugu-Gamgadhi road in the Talcha area of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-4 (Mugu) and the Gothalapani-Jhulaghat road section in the Dasharathchand Municipality area (Baitadi) have been affected.
As road conditions are subject to constant change, the police have urged passengers and drivers to check the road status before traveling.
