Traditional communist movement no longer suffice: Shankar Pokharel
KATHMANDU:- Shankar Pokharel, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), has stated that democratic forces and those upholding the constitution must unite on issues concerning nationalism and development.
Speaking at a program organized today by the CPN-UML’s Tarkeshwor Municipal Committee in Kathmandu Constituency No. 6, he instructed party cadres to become popular among the people in order to win their trust. He noted that mass organizations have been mobilized as part of the party’s awareness campaign aimed at improving its relationship with the public.
“We must win the people’s confidence in our policies based on ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy’ and conduct ourselves in alignment with the people’s aspirations,” said General Secretary Pokharel. “Operating solely on the ideology of the traditional communist movement will no longer suffice; we must engage the new generation and achieve excellence through competition by applying Marxism creatively.”
He maintains that while the UML prioritized economic and social development during its past tenures in government, it must acknowledge the growing dissatisfaction stemming from its failure to provide employment opportunities for the youth within the country.
