Uttam Singh Karki dies after jumping from Far-Western University building
KANCHANPUR:- A student who had gone to take an entrance exam at Sudurpaschim University has died after jumping from a building.
Uttam Singh Karki, 23, from Bagun in Bedkot Municipality-4, passed away while undergoing treatment after sustaining critical injuries from jumping off the university’s second floor on Saturday.
According to preliminary investigations, Karki jumped from the second floor of the university building after taking the entrance exam for the first semester of the Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) program on Saturday, the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, reported.
Karki, who had participated in the entrance exam—which began at 8:15 AM—and exited the classroom at 9:15 AM, climbed onto the railing of the building’s second floor and jumped.
Immediately after the incident, Karki, who had sustained serious injuries, was rushed to Mahakali Provincial Hospital by ambulance. Due to severe injuries to the head and various parts of the body, he was referred to Maya Metro Hospital in Dhangadhi for further treatment following initial care.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Tek Bahadur Rawat, spokesperson for the District Police Office, stated that doctors declared him dead upon his arrival at the hospital.
The deceased was the youngest son of local businessman Padam Singh Karki. He had completed his secondary education (Plus 2) at Baijanath Secondary School. Police stated that further investigation into the cause of the incident is underway.
