Women dies by being hit by a stone in menstrual shed in Achham

By Ramesh Rawat, ACHHAM:- A young woman and a girl died after being hit by a stone while staying in chhaugoth (a menstrual shed) under a trampoline sheet in Achham district. 

Chief of District Police Office, Achham, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Om Prakash Khanal said that 28-year-old Nim Khanal and 7-year-old Kavita Bhandari of Mangalsen Municipality 6 died after a stone fell on them in Barala, Panchadewal Binayak Municipality-8 of Achham district.

Similarly, Ratnakala Bhandari of Mangalsen Municipality-6 has been injured. She has sustained a serious head injury and is being taken to Nepalgunj for treatment.

Last night, three people were hit by a stone falling from above while sleeping under a tarpaulin in the courtyard of their house in a local place called Churkuli, during their period.

Police have reached the spot. It has been raining continuously in Achham since Thursday.

In Achham, after the demolition of Chhaugoth, menstruating women have started living under tarpaulins and in dens.

Chhaupadi is an practice of menstruating women not staying at home, touching food and livelihood. RSS
