Various highways across the country blocked; night driving prohibited on some roads
KATHMANDU:- Continuous rainfall has obstructed major highways and road sections across various districts of the country; additionally, night-time vehicle movement has been banned on certain road sections due to the risk of potential floods and landslides.
According to data received by Police Headquarters as of 9:00 AM today, the operation of all types of vehicles has been prohibited between 6:00 PM and 4:00 AM on the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebesi section of the BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli.
It has been announced that, due to the risk of potential flooding, traffic movement on the road will remain suspended at night until further notice, though vehicles will be allowed to operate between 4:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
Similarly, on the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur, the operation of all types of vehicles has been prohibited from 5:00 PM to 5:00 AM due to risks associated with the rainfall. The Mechi Highway has also been completely blocked at Rajduwali in Ilam Municipality-9 due to a landslide.
Various sections of the Arniko Highway are completely blocked due to road subsidence in the Zero Kilo, Kodari, and Liping areas of Bhote-Koshi Rural Municipality, Sindhupalchok.
The Lamosanghu-Ramechhap road section at Kirnetar in Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-5, Dolakha, has been obstructed due to erosion caused by the Tamakoshi River. However, police have reported that an alternative route has been brought into operation through the premises of the Khimti Rural Electricity Cooperative.
The Pasang Lhamu Highway section has been completely blocked after the Trishuli River eroded the road in the Khalte area of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa.
Meanwhile, the Nagma-Gamgadhi road section is blocked in the Talcha area of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-7, Mugu, and the Kaligandaki Corridor at Belbagar in Jaimini Municipality-8, Baglung, has also been closed due to a landslide.
Landslides have completely blocked the Kaligandaki Corridor in the Litipiring area of Nisdi Rural Municipality-1, Palpa.
Similarly, landslides have caused a complete blockage of the Kanti Lokpath at Pangdur in Bagmati Rural Municipality-3, Lalitpur; the Mid-Hill Highway at Kandabazar in Bhume Rural Municipality-3, Rukum East; the Beni-Jomsom road at Baiseri in Raghuganga Rural Municipality-2 and Bhirkate in Annapurna Rural Municipality-7, Myagdi; and the Maldhunga-Beni road at Kerabari in Jaljala Rural Municipality-7, Parbat.
The police have urged everyone to obtain information about road conditions from the concerned authorities and to exercise caution before traveling, given the high risk of landslides, floods, and road washouts during the monsoon season.
