“The situation leading him to kill his wife arose because of the romantic relationship between Kumar and me”

KATHMANDU:- Pratiksha Acharya, the girlfriend of Kumar Thapa Magar—alias ‘Nepali Bro’—who was arrested for his wife’s murder, has stated that their romance led to this outcome. However, she has not admitted to any involvement in the murder itself.

The charge sheet filed in court accuses Pratiksha of abetment to murder and seeks punishment. According to the statement included in the charge sheet, Pratiksha admitted to falling in love with Nepali Bro and engaging in sexual relations with him, despite knowing that he was married.

According to Acharya, a nursing student originally from Jumla who currently resides in Boudha, Kathmandu, she first met Kumar via TikTok about two years ago.

The pair went viral after Kumar created TikTok videos referring to her as his “doctor girlfriend.” Her statement mentions that a romantic relationship developed between them during this time, eventually leading to sexual relations.

Pratiksha stated that their relationship continued even though she was aware that Kumar was married and that his wife, Ishwari Bhujel, served in the Nepal Army.

Discussions regarding this matter had also taken place repeatedly at the Balaju Police Circle. Ishwari had filed a case of marital rape against Kumar, for which he was released on a bail of 50,000 rupees. A divorce case between the couple was also ongoing in court.

Acharya has claimed that she had been planning to end her relationship with Kumar and go abroad for the past month. She stated that she received the news of Kumar slitting his wife Ishwari’s throat and killing her while she was on a trip to Kulekhani with friends on Jestha 22, 2083. The police arrested Acharya for investigation the very next day.

Claiming she was not involved in the plot to commit the murder, Acharya stated, “The situation leading him to kill his wife arose because of the romantic relationship between Kumar and me. I was not involved in planning the crime, but I am prepared to face the punishment prescribed by law.”
