Thapa and Lingden-led RPP inch closer to unification

KATHMANDU:- An agreement has been reached to unify the parties between the Rajendra Lingden-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and the Kamal Thapa-led Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP Nepal).

A meeting held between top leaders of both parties at the RPP central office in Dhumbarahi on Wednesday evening decided to move towards party unity. Leaders have said that the agreement has laid the foundation for moving forward in a unified manner, ending the division between royalist and nationalist forces.

The meeting decided to sign a unity agreement, and the agreement was signed by the chairmen Kamal Thapa and Rajendra Lingden. It is reported that the formal announcement of party unity will be held on December 31st at the National Assembly in Kathmandu.

Speaking to media persons after the agreement, Chairman Thapa said that the movement of Gen-G youth has created waves in the overall politics of Nepal. According to Chairman Thapa, the Gen-G movement has put forward the demand for an end to corruption and good governance. He said that only nationalist forces can fulfill the responsibility of ending corruption and establishing good governance.

After being defeated for the post of chairman at the RPP general convention held in November 2021, Kamal Thapa left the party and revived RPP Nepal. Since then, both parties have been active in political activities separately.

As the upcoming House of Representatives elections in March approach, the unity of the royalist forces is expected to bring a new wave to the political scene.
