Supreme Court upholds decision to grant legitimacy to Gagan Thapa-led Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU:- The Supreme Court has upheld the decision to legitimize the leadership of the Nepali Congress elected by the special general convention led by Gagan Thapa. On Friday, a bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nripadhwaj Niraula upheld the Election Commission’s decision to legitimize the special general convention.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the writ petition filed by the then Former President  Sher Bahadur Deuba and  former Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka. On Friday, the lawyers for the petitioners and the opposition argued.

With the dissolution of the working committee of Deuba and Khadka, the Supreme Court has given legitimacy to the working committee elected by the special general convention. The hearing, which began on Thursday, ended on Friday.

The Election Commission recognized the special general convention held by Thapa last December.
