Special screening of “Everest Challengers: Game of Himalayas” highlights climate awareness

KATHMANDU:-  A special screening of the reality show “Everest Challengers: Game of Himalayas” was held on Wednesday at Octave, Durbar Marg, in Kathmandu, organised by the U.S. Embassy and the show’s producer. The event, attended by audiences from different walks of life, showcased a unique approach to raising climate change awareness in the Himalayas.

The screening featured the pilot episode of a reality show following 11 social media creators from the Philippines, Thailand, Nepal, India, the USA, and Colombia. These creators took part in a challenging trek to Everest Base Camp, blending adventure with a mission to highlight the Himalayan region’s environmental issues.

Mike Harker, the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Chief, lauded the show’s aspiration to highlight the adventure tourism potential of the Himalayas globally through the creators’ vast online reach.

Shree Gurung, the producer and creator of the show, revealed that the project, initiated four years ago, was a bold risk to put Nepal on the international stage and draw attention to the Himalayan glaciers’ plight.

The event also honoured two legendary mountaineers: Kami Rita Sherpa and Mingma David Sherpa. Kami Rita Sherpa holds the record for the most Everest summits, with 31 ascents. Mingma David Sherpa, a Guinness World Record holder, is known for the fastest combined ascent of Everest and K2.

The screening showed creative ways to address climate concerns, blending entertainment with environmental advocacy.
