Political parties want government to make more efforts to hold election successfully

KATHMANDU:- Stress has been laid for intensifying a tri-party dialogue among the government, Election Commission and the political parties to ensure the completion of the House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5 in a free and fearless atmosphere.

During an interaction organised by the EC with political parties on Thursday in regard with the election announced for March 5. 2026, the political parties insisted on such dialogues so as to create an atmosphere conducive for the polls.

Min Bishwakarma of the Nepali Congress, who was among the participants in the discussions, called for enabling the election atmosphere by addressing the sentiments of recent Gen Z movement held on September 8-9.

He said though election may be a tool to address this special situation, though government is not properly cooperating with the parties for enabling the atmosphere for the election.

CPN (UML) Vice Chair Guru Prasad Baral was of the view that the government’s decisions to restrict the movement of political parties, ban passports of leaders, and the rallies and assemblies hamper the efforts towards the creation of an election-friendly atmosphere. He demanded the government re-arrest those prisoners who escaped the police confinement and confiscate the arms that were looted during the demonstration.

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Dev Prasad Gurung said the party is ready to join the election no matter how it was announced. As he said, the government has so far failed to take the political parties into confidence in regard with the election. He said the election will be successful provided that the national security is guaranteed.

The EC summoned representatives of 29 political parties represented in the dissolved HoR and the parties winning at least one ward member in the last election.(RSS)
