Police Nab 189 in Kathmandu Crackdown on Fraud, Hooliganism

KATHMANDU:- Kathmandu Police have arrested 189 individuals over the past week in a special operation targeting fraud, illegal intermediary activities, and public harassment.

According to District Police Office spokesperson Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, legal proceedings have been initiated against those detained. He noted that 150 arrests were made in the last 24 hours alone.

Police said the operation primarily focused on individuals involved in deceiving service seekers, operating as unauthorised intermediaries at public places such as bus parks, airports, and transport offices, as well as those engaged in hooliganism.

“We have intensified action against those creating disturbances and harassing the public in the name of service delivery. This campaign will continue,” Bhattarai said.

Authorities also increased surveillance in areas with active nightlife, leading to the arrest of 16 individuals for direct involvement in hooliganism. All suspects are currently under investigation, with further legal action to follow based on their level of involvement.

Meanwhile, the central spokesperson of Nepal Police, Avi Narayan Kafle, said a directive has been issued to police units nationwide to take strict action against intermediaries and individuals involved in harassment and criminal activities.
