NRNA conducts health camp in Trishuli for flood affected people
KATHMANDU:- The relief and humanitarian aid campaign being conducted by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) for the rescue and relief of citizens affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa and Nuwakot continues for the eighth consecutive day.
The NRNA has once again distributed relief materials to flood victims from Rasuwa. Various relief supplies were provided to ease the daily lives of the families and children who were displaced by the devastating floods in the Bhote Koshi River and are currently sheltering at Yellow Gumba and Mustang Gumba in Nagarjun Municipality-2, Kathmandu.
On behalf of the NRNA, six coolers, two deep freezers, 200 sanitary pads, six packets of diapers, 340 pairs of slippers, 300 blankets, 300 towels, and 300 pillows were handed over. These items were handed over to Urken Chhiring Tamang, the Ward Chairperson of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality-1.
Previously, six coolers and two deep freezers had already been handed over, taking into account the needs of the families staying at the shelter. Today, an additional six coolers and two deep freezers, along with other essential relief materials, were provided. The coolers and deep freezers were sponsored by NRNA Joint Treasurer Abdul Basid.
Support for flood victims continues to arrive from various National Coordination Councils (NCCs). To make the fundraising process more effective, the NRNA held further consultations and discussions today with various NCCs and relevant stakeholders. During these discussions, the organization reviewed the ongoing initiatives and progress regarding fundraising for flood victims and urged the NCCs to mobilize additional support.
A medical team led by the NRNA, which had set out to conduct a health camp in the flood-affected area of Baghatar, Nuwakot, arrived there only in the evening due to adverse weather and poor road conditions. As the journey to the destination took the entire day because of the bad weather and road obstructions, the health camp is now scheduled to begin tomorrow.
The camp, to be held at Trishuli Provincial Hospital in coordination with the Bagmati Province Government, will be led by Prasuna Kandel, Co-coordinator of the Global Health Committee, and Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota, an NRNA ICC member. Participants in the team include NRNA President Dr. Hemraj Sharma and Vice President Manoj Shrestha (who also serves as the Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee), among others.
Free health check-ups, medical consultations, and medicine distribution will be provided at the camp, targeting approximately 250 flood-affected families. The NRNA has also stated that training on sanitation awareness, disaster management, and first aid will be conducted.
