NRB releases strategic analyses report on virtual asset

KATHMANDU:- The financial information unit of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made public a strategic analyses report on virtual asset-2025.

The report dwells on the risk of virtual asset Nepal could face like money laundering, financial investment in the terrorist activities, production and expansion of lethal weapons. Suspicious transaction surfaced from January 2021 to 2025 July in the Go-AML system, and data received from national and international sources are analysed in detail. It is centered on how virtual asset is misused, its trend and identification of the indicators of possible risks.

Nepal has legally banned the activities relating to virtual transaction. Such activities are however linked to criminal activities like online fraud, online gambling, secretive business, use of ‘money mule’, according to the report.

The report is expected to make aware the stakeholders, urging them to adopt adequate measures on possible risk of virtual asset. Regulatory, supervisory and legal enforcement have been suggested for curbing the related crimes. (RSS)
