Nepalis living abroad should have voting rights: Former NRNA President Mahesh Shrestha

TOKYO:- Mahesh Kumar Shrestha, former president of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), has stated that the role and importance of the Nepali Public Relations Committee will increase further once Nepalis living abroad gain the right to vote.

Addressing the oath-taking and certificate distribution ceremony of the new executive committee elected at the 7th General Convention of the Nepali Public Relations Committee, Japan, as the chief guest, Shrestha expressed the view that the responsibilities of the Public Relations Committee would further increase once the voting rights of Nepalis living abroad are ensured.

Speaking at an event held on Saturday at the Solmari Restaurant in Shin-Okubo, Tokyo, he highlighted the significant role of political parties in Nepal, stating that it is the parties themselves that unite the multi-ethnic and multilingual society. He emphasized the need to further strengthen ideologies, principles, and democratic values.

Stating that future politics must focus on economic prosperity, Shrestha emphasized that—at a time when working styles are changing globally—political parties must also transform themselves to keep pace with the times.

Noting that it is the responsibility of political parties to create an investment-friendly environment in Nepal, he expressed the view that the Nepali Congress should play an effective role in this regard.

At the event, Election Officer Bhupi Govinda Shrestha administered the oath of office and secrecy to the office-bearers and members of the newly elected executive committee and distributed certificates to them.

The program, which began with a welcome address by Muktiraj Regmi, featured remarks conveying best wishes from outgoing President Lal Bahadur KC, former Presidents Dandapani Kandel and Dr. Balram Shrestha, Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Central Members Ramraj Pokharel and Bhupraj Basyal, as well as Baburam Sapkota, Suresh Giri, Tikaram Kharel, and Muktiram Khanal, among others.
