Nepali father kills wife and daughter in Virginia; killer Chhatra Bahadur Thapa dies after being shot by police

VIRGINIA:- In a tragic murder case in Fairfax County, Virginia, on Monday morning, 50-year-old Chhatra Bahadur Thapa stabbed his wife and daughter to death inside their Persimmon Drive apartment.

When police arrived at the scene around 5:15 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of domestic violence, authorities began investigating a series of unimaginably gruesome murders.

Thapa’s son-in-law, Santosh Kumar Basnet, 35, called police on 911 after hearing a commotion inside the apartment while clearing snow from outside his car. When Basnet rushed to the scene, he saw his 31-year-old wife, Mamta Thapa, and 51-year-old mother-in-law, Binda Thapa, covered in blood.

Thapa then strike a knife at his son-in-law Basnet, seriously injuring him. Police who arrived at the scene immediately found Thapa actively attacking Basnet and repeatedly ordered him to drop the knife. When he refused, a police officer opened fire, killing Thapa on the spot.

The one-year-old baby in the home was not harmed in the incident. Investigators have not found any prior criminal history or police reports related to the family. Police are investigating the cause of this tragic incident, contacting relatives.

Remember, tragic murders of a similar nature have occurred in the Nepali community in Virginia before.
