Nepali athlete Deepak Chhantyal wins gold and Megma Gurung wins bronze in Hapkido

KATHMANDU:- Nepali athletes delivered outstanding performances at the ongoing 11th World Hapkido Championship 2026 in South Korea, winning one gold and one bronze medal.

In the ‘Fight Kyorugi’ category of the competition, Nepal’s Deepak Chhantyal won the gold medal, while Megma Gurung secured the bronze. Megma had won a silver medal in the previous edition.

Deepak, competing in the 80–84 kg weight category, competed in three rounds to win the gold medal. In his first match, he defeated a competitor from Germany to advance to the next round.

He then defeated a South Korean athlete in the semi-finals to secure his place in the final. Kali Bahadur Gharti Magar, President of the Nepal Hapkido Association, stated that Deepak won the gold medal by defeating a Brazilian competitor in the final.

Indra Bahadur Mahara, General Secretary of the Nepal Hapkido Association, stated that the success of both athletes is regarded as a significant achievement for Nepali sports. He noted that the performance of the Nepali athletes has further strengthened Nepal’s identity in international Hapkido.
