Nepal-US cooperation should focus on digital innovation, clean energy and trade: Minister Khanal

KATHMANDU:- Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has viewed that Nepal-US economic relation should be focused on three strategic sectors: digital innovation, clean energy and trade.

Addressing a function organised by the Center for Social Innovation and Foreign Policy, commemorating the 250th anniversary of American Independence, in Kathmandu today, Minister Khanal pointed at the need to expand and move forward the traditional Nepal-US relations and concentrate on investment, trade, technology and entrepreneurship.

On the occasion, Minister Khanal extended his best wishes to the Government and people of the United States on behalf of the Government and people of Nepal and highlighted the longstanding Nepal-US ties rooted in shared democratic values and constitutionalism.

With regard to digital transformation, a sector that he said the Nepal-US cooperation should focus, Minister Khanal said digital transformation should be moved forward by connecting Nepal’s skilled youth and IT human resource with US innovation system and capital.

“We want to link Nepal’s talented youths and IT human resource with US ecosystem of innovation and capital,” he said.

As the second sector of cooperation, he mentioned expansion of cooperation on clean energy and climate resilience. Sustainable hydropower, cross border transmission line structure and Himalayan ecosystem preservation are its primary sector, he said.

As the third sector to focus on, Foreign Minister Khanal pointed at the need to connecting Nepali diaspora in US with Nepal’s economic transformation through technology transfer, trade relation and development of entrepreneurship.
