Nepal Supreme Court orders to resolve issue of Ex Gurkha through diplomatic means

KATHMANDU:-  The Supreme Court has issued an order to resolve the problems of former Gurkha soldiers through high-level diplomatic channels through discussions with the British government.

The full text of the case filed by Bhim Bahadur Limbu Tawa, coordinator of the British Gurkha Satyagraha Sangharsh Samiti Nepal, and chief advisor Lal Bahadur Ghising was made public on Thursday.

The full text states that a directive order has been issued to further initiate quantitative talks with the British government on the problems of former Gurkha soldiers through high-level diplomatic channels.

A bench of Supreme Court Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal and Mahesh Sharma Poudel issued the directive order in the name of the government, stating that Gurkha soldiers, who have been serving in the British Army for two centuries, have to endure unequal treatment even to this day.

Similarly, the Supreme Court has also issued an order to amend the agreement on pensions received by former Gurkha soldiers through India and arrange for them to come directly from the UK to Nepal.

The decision states that the actual data of Gurkha soldiers who have served in the Gurkha recruitment and who have retired from service will be requested from the UK government and that the Nepal government will also maintain the data.
