‘Nepal stresses the need to strengthen the United Nations development system’

NEW YORK:- Nepal has emphasized the need to strengthen the United Nations development system. Nepal believes that doing so is essential to ensure multilateralism.

At the discussion on ‘The Future of Multilateralism: Building a UN Development System Beyond 2030’ organized at the UN Headquarters today, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Lok Bahadur Thapa emphasized the need to empower the UN development system to address the challenges and opportunities beyond 2030.

According to Nepal’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, Envoy Thapa said that the development system should be strengthened not only to implement the remaining Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also to address future challenges and opportunities.

He emphasized that the UN development system should be made more effective not only through institutional structures but also through partnerships and solidarity. He said that without the active participation of civil society, youth, the academic sector, local governments, the private sector and other stakeholders, an effective and relevant development system cannot be built in the future.

Permanent Representative Thapa stressed the need to further strengthen international cooperation, stating that the decisions taken today will play a significant role in building an effective and result-oriented multilateral system for the coming generation.
