Nepal requests to be removed from US visa bond program

LOS ANGELES:- The US State Department has stated that it is reviewing Nepal’s request to be removed from the US visitor visa bond program. According to the department, visa bond programs and other immigration-related measures are subject to continuous, country-specific reviews.

According to the U.S. State Department, we are aware of Nepal’s request to be removed from the list. We do not wish to create obstacles for business-to-business relationships; therefore, we are continuously evaluating the situation. Please stay tuned for any changes regarding this matter.

However, the US State Department has not clarified the criteria that must be met for Nepal to be removed from the visitor visa bond program, nor whether the department has made a preliminary decision on the matter.

The visa bond requirement came into effect in Nepal on January 21, 2026. The U.S. Department of State has included Nepal in a list of 50 countries on its website; citizens of these countries may be required to post a bond when applying for B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourist) visas.
