Melbourne’s Nepali community active in spiritual activities, organizing Bhajan Kirtan

MELBOURNE:-  he Nepali community living in Melbourne, Australia, has been increasingly participating in spiritual activities with the aim of preserving, promoting and passing on the Sanatan Vedic religion, culture and hymn tradition.

In this context, the Nepali temple in Melbourne regularly performs Bhajan Kirtan, dance and devotional performances throughout the month.

Spiritual activities are being conducted by different groups, under which one group regularly performs Bhajan Kirtan every Saturday from 5:30 PM, while on the other hand, the youth community has been conducting special Bhajan programs fortnightly, i.e. on the first and third Sunday of the month at 5:30 PM.

Apart from this weekly Bhajan Kirtan, which has been going on continuously for over a year, the organizers also organize grand ‘Maha-Bhajan’ programs from time to time.

Around 500 devotees have attended the Bhajan Kirtan so far and this number is continuously increasing.

With the second Maha-Bhajan having been successfully completed recently, the organizers are now preparing to announce the date for the third Maha-Bhajan soon.

Amidst this spiritual wave of Bhajan Kirtan, the holy Buddhist festival ‘Saga Dawa Duchen 2026’ has also been grandly organized at the Nepali Temple in Melbourne under the leadership and coordination of Ravi Yonjan, a young man of about 30 years old.

According to the Tibetan Buddhist calendar, the fourth month is called ‘Saga Dawa’, which is considered a month of great merit in Buddhist philosophy. In the year 2026, this holy month is scheduled to last from May 17 to June 15.
